CGA Handbook of Compressed Gases: Project Update

The Compressed Gas Association (CGA) is excited to provide an update on the ongoing transformation of the CGA Handbook of Compressed Gases from a traditional textbook format to a dynamic, interactive online tool. This project aims to modernize the Handbook to better serve our members and the broader industry with enhanced access to vital information.

The Handbook is divided into two main sections: Chapters and Monographs. The chapters provide high-level overviews of the compressed gas industry, including key processes, equipment, and associated hazards. The monographs offer in-depth reviews of over 70 specific gases, including essential details such as chemical properties, uses, physiological effects, methods of shipment, and much more.

In January 2023, we completed and launched the monograph portion of the project. Members can access these monographs by visiting the Handbook publication detail page and clicking on the “Handbook Online” button. This resource is designed to be a comprehensive, easily accessible source of information on compressed gases.

Next Steps: Chapter Content Reimagination

We are now focusing on reimagining the chapter content, with active input from our committee task forces. Our goals for this phase include:

• Streamlining Content: Creating concise, high-level overviews that link to CGA publications and other resources, avoiding content duplication.
• Expanding Coverage: Introducing new chapters that address a broader scope of the industry and areas of growing importance.
• Enhanced Usability: Breaking larger chapters into smaller sections to make information easier to search and navigate.
• Historical Context: Incorporating a historical perspective on how the industry has evolved in specific areas.
• Incorporating Visual Aids: Adding graphics, photos, videos, and other visuals to improve user comprehension.
